ZAKINTOS ( ZANTE )
Zakynthos or Zante, the third largest of the seven major Ionian islands,
but also one of the most beautiful Greek islands. Zakynthos is located in the
southern part of the Ionian Sea, which is part of the Mediterranean Sea. Island
with several adjacent small islands
For a relatively small island of Zakynthos can boast a number of beaches, lagoons
and coves different, which is one of the reasons for the great popularity of Zakynthos
in the world. The best known, most popular and certainly the most recognizable beach
on a world scale is Smuggler's Cove Beach, which is the main motif on many postcards
and catalogs. Zakynthos beaches are high quality, and awarded some blue flag.
BANANA BEACH
Banana Zakynthos: Banana
is the largest beach of Zakynthos island, located 14 km (20 min drive) from
Zakynthos Town. It is famous for the exotic waters that shine under the sun
light. Banana is fully organized with umbrellas and sundecks available for
rent. There are a few beach bars offering cold drinks and light snacks. The
beach distinguishes for the rocky landscape and the soft golden sand. The access
to the beach is easy and there is plenty of parking space. This is an excellent
beach, among the most beautiful in the island.
AMBOULA BEACH
Amboula Beach Zakynthos:
Located on the eastern side of the island, Amboula is found between the beaches
of Tsilivi and Kato Tragaki. This is a small beach that receives few visitors,
however it is partly organized with sunbeds and umbrellas. Above the beach,
there is also a tavern and parking space. The water of Amboula is crystal
clean, although after few metres they get quite deep. The coast has soft sand
and the bay is surrounded by nice greenery. This is a nice and calm place to
relax in your holidays, mostly frequented by families with kids.
ALYKES BEACH
Alykes Zakynthos: The area
of Alykes Zante (or Alikes) is located 18 km north-west of the capital of
Zakynthos and took its name from the salt-pits (alykes in Greek) hidden behind
the village of Alykes. Those salt-pits used to be the main source of income and
wealth of the islanders. A beautiful sandy beach can be found in Alykes,
attracting many visitors for its amazing sand and crystalline waters. The main
road passing through the settlement is boarded by a lot of restaurants, bars
and tourist shops. Numerous accommodations are available in the area. The
coastal settlement of Alykanas is to be found a couple of kilometres from
Alykes and is less popular (and less crowded) than Alykes. It offers a
beautiful sandy beach which is the continuation of Zante Alykes Beach and also
has crystal-clear waters.
